The Final Exam is a ‘cumulative’ test, with 80 multiple-choice questions in the main section, along with 5 extra credit ‘listening examples’. These 80 questions are based on ones that you have seen on the four tests, with approximately 20 taken from each.
Here are a few tips to help you prepare for the Final Exam…
1. Review your ‘Worksheets’ that you have accumulated since the beginning of the semester. These are available on the ‘Presentations’ page.
2. Review the ‘Final Exam Game Sheet’ that you worked on Tuesday in class.
3. Review the ‘Timeline’ to associate relevant dates & developments.
4. Get enough rest so that you can concentrate & do your best.
Good luck!

I hope that you are having an enjoyable Thanksgiving break, and that you are taking time to prep for next week’s classes.
We will have Test 4 on Tuesday, which will cover the material on Digital Technology. You will find all of the ppts on the ‘Presentations’ ‘age, along with the worksheet to guide you along. You should fill out that worksheet completely, and bring it to class on Tuesday. You will be allowed to refer to this worksheet (ONLY) while taking the test.
Also, you need to have your Final Recording Project completed by Thursday. Remember to turn in ONE properly labeled CD and ONE report. The playable CD should be a mix of your recorded music, and the report should describe all of the procedures that were involved in the recording.
See you in class!

We will spend our ONLY class this week discussing ‘Digital Delivery Media’ (see the Delivery Media pdf on the ‘Presentations’ page). You should read Alten Chapter 17 ‘Internet Production’ pp. 376 – 385 & AET1380 Workbook pp. 102 – 106 to become familiar with this topic.
I have put the ‘quiz’ on-line, so you should complete it prior to coming to class. Go to the Blackboard site, and select ‘Assessments’, where you will find a quiz called ‘Digital Scavenger Hunt’. There are 10 questions about digital technology.
Also, remember to turn in your Observation 4 Reports in class, or to Kellie Meeks in Room 215.
See you on Tuesday!

Next week we will explore the world of digital audio… including conversion, media, manipulation, and playback. Read Alten Chapter 6 ‘Recording – Digital’ and Chapter 5 ‘Digital Consoles’ to get prepared for this.
You should be working on your Final Project, and, of course, your 4th Observation. See ‘Projects’ for more info. Your Observation Report 4 is due on Tuesday Nov. 24.
We will also have an in-class Quiz on Thursday Nov. 19 on ‘digital audio’.
Have a great weekend!

I have posted all of the presentations & worksheets that you will need to prepare for Test 3. You should read Alten Ch.8 (Signal Processing), and review these while completing the various worksheets. Together these will prepare you for the test, which will be scantron-style, multiple-choice (like the previous ones).
There will also be a few ‘extra credit’ questions, which will consist of matching music examples that we have listened to in class to identify various recording styles & techniques.
Remember to be working on determining your ‘Final Project’ group… I have posted the current status on the ‘Projects’ page. We will finalize this in class on Tuesday, as well as briefly review the recording procedures in B25. You should have the handouts relating to equipment operation for reference.
Have a great weekend!

This week will be venturing into the world of ’signal processors’…spectrum, time, amplitude, and noise. You should be reading Alten Chapter 8 “Signal Processors” to get familiar with this material too.
We will discuss details of the Final Project Assignment in class this week. See the ‘Projects’ page for more info.
On Tuesday, I will have a ’sign up’ sheet for you to use to indicate who will be in your group. Each group should ideally have 3 persons as the ‘production team’, and these may only be students from either of my two sections. It is OK to have other persons involved as ‘musicians/talent’. If you are doing the ‘presentation’ option, then all group members must be from either of my two sections.
Following class on Tuesday, your production team should sign-up for a recording session time slot in B25 AFTER Test 3 (Nov. 10). We will spend some time in class going over B25 recording equipment operation, however you should review pp. 135 -175 in the 1380 Workbook to get more help with this.
See you in class!
